It was a pleasant afternoon in June. After finishing my chores, I sat on the porch trying to relax. A gentle breeze drifted through the trees, whispering sweet nothings to all who listened. The birds warbled cheerily away. From inside the house, the old clock swung her pendulum steadfastly. The clock and I are approximately of the same age. I leaned my head back, closed my eyes and smiled. I feel a bit tired. As I listen to these gentle sounds, my eyes grow heavy. I drift away to a place somewhere between wakefulness and sleep. As I was about to doze off, I jumped with a start. A motorcycle flew by with the utmost maniacal speed, its engines roaring furiously as if the devil was chasing after them. In alarm, the birds stopped their joyful singing. The breeze paused in whispering its little sweet nothings. Everyone wondered at all the commotion! What happened, they thought? Nothing! It is only one of the self-important nobodies that seem to proliferate our society these days! I cannot imagine why they insist on making their presence felt in such an obnoxious and loud manner wherever they go!
